I love her track “Can’t stop the rain”..me and boyfriend thought
that it was from the eighties, but found out just now that her
album is out later this year. About time we had some decent
music like this!
Shena is indeed a fantastic singer. She’s been lending her smooth vocals to some of the biggest dance hits over the past few years, high time so get’s the credit for it. Here’s a few links to her sites I found, you can hear 6 of her new tracks on her Facebook & iLike pages…
Hi

What do you mean Bill Kaulitz “tends to bend his gender a little bit too much”? Do you have your own acceptable level of femininity in a man, and yet applaud a woman gaining masculinity to the point she takes hormones to achieve it as you did with JD Samson?
I thought your comment was quite ignorant and insensitive, especially seeing as he doesn’t do it as an act and is actually this feminine in real life.
I am singing my own compostion in the UK Live & Unsigned competition at Bedford Corn Exchange on Sunday April 12th, I am very excited about the contest, but also the director of the competition Chris Grayston has offered me a publishing contract for the song I will be performing “The One to Blame” although I haven´t come to any decision as yet, I want to get a professional opinion on the contents, I dont want to give away all copyrights. I have a another one of my songs on You Tube, “Not Meant to Be” and I´m getting some great feed back, I´m also doing a Lilly Allen cover, and again some great comments. I would love it if you would check out my web site and you tube and tell me what you think.
Funny enough, when I hear the “classical” ring on people’s cells, it’s irritating. I actually prefer the generic polyphonic ringtone since it’s softer on the ears. I’ve heard some cells with animal calls. Those always make me either giggle or wrinkle my nose.
I have known Shena since school days, and even then I don’t think anyone could have described her as a “shrinking violet”!!! Go Shena – this has been a long time coming, you deserve every bit of this success and I know the world is ready for it!

screaming lights are an awsome band despite some poor reviews from NME they are still going and keep belting out great tunes there certainly a band not to be missed !!
I really can’t tell if this is true… I don’t think music really determines IQ to a large extent. There could be people that choose pop as their musical choice, but merely because they have other priorities, therefore they enjoy music that is easy to find.
Also, what would metal tell you? You would assume that it makes you dumb, but it’s a diverse genre and some of it are much more complicated (ie. progressive metal) than most of Radiohead.
hiya i am one of your biggest fans i love your music u are fit as well fuative ifnu eva come to gravesend i am gunna come and see u cause i just love you so much xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Interesting article. I think they all have their own merit but I’m a little against mp3/downloads simply because I wouldn’t want its success to totally eradicate vinyl and cd in the long run.
Vinyl’s great, collectable, and if the artwork is something to behold, it can be very simple and still contribute to the overall feel and emotion of the music. It’s almost like a ritual; opening up the gatefold, looking at the detail of the pictures, placing the record on the turntable an the needle into the groove.
The closest a cd has come to emulating this experience (and in many ways I believe it did) is 10,000 Days by Tool. Two lenses attached to the pack lets you look at incredible images in 3d.
Tape gets chewed up, cd’s get scratched, mp3′s have no artwork/packaging (unless some can be downloaded which is going to be limited) and ultimately seem the product of music ‘artists’ with a limited vision.
No matter how old and battered the vinyl in my collection gets, it still works. (I have my dads Electric Ladyland on vinyl from about 1971, still plays like a dream).
And for the audiophiles among us who want things in 5.1 surround etc (I’ve only heard Nine Inch Nails ‘The Downward Spiral and that is truly amazing to hear in this format) the sometimes rough but genuine sound of vinyl gives off more of a feel than cd/digital formats. the music surrounds you, mixes in with the air in the room and becomes part of the atmosphere.
OK, it sounds like I’m going overboard, but I really don’t know any other way to express how good the sound of vinyl is, the quality of it as a product, and how important it is that, even if cassette and cd come and go, there should always be a place for vinyl.
Heard most of the albim, it sounds amazing melodies and hooks all over the place. Moscow underground the 1st track is amazingly atmospheric and unique sounding.
Thanks for your great comment! I think we’re terribly alike, i’m an audiophile at heart too.
After writing this article, I was so inspired I busted out my parents vinyl collection and spent the night listening to Led Zeppelin’s IV and it far overrides the atmosphere and quality that the same album has on cd.
10,000 Days was a great experience, not only because i’d been waiting for another Tool album for quite some time, but rather the artwork and the effort put into the 3D viewing pushed the experience to a whole other level.
The Downward Spiral too, in surround sound on vinyl was absolutely incredible to hear. Like you said, the scratched but amazingly genuine feel to it exemplifed the sound that just felt real.
Perhaps that’s why I prefer vinyl – You go to a concert and there is always another aspect of noise. A cd/tape/mp3 format is so clean. There’s no scratches or skips that can add to the atmosphere and void any emotion that could have been created during recording.
So don’t feel like you’re going overboard! I totally understand what you mean about the sound of vinyl, it’s a shame it’s just so damn expensive on my side of the planet.
If you can get hold of The Smashing Pumpkins ‘Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness’ on LP, that’s another modern classic that improves with the vinyl experience.
It comes on 3 lp’s, has a different booklet to the cd pack and a different track listing that suits the format of 3-5 songs per side.
good luck kate! waiting for the album, i am sure it will be amazing! you are a very sensual and beautiful artist. I like so much the fast and the slow on your songs.xxxxx
I’ve heard about six of the new tracks so far, and they’ve definitely grabbed my attention. There’s an undeniable energy to this band, a refusal to sit back and rest on its laurels or take the easy way out by writing pablum simply for the sake of charting. Suffice to say, they’re still swinging and there’s a lot of energy in their bat. “Moscow Underground” is a homerun outta the ballpark, as they say. From what I’ve heard so far, it’s a very solid album – the new tracks are true to the band’s legacy without rehashing formulas that worked in the past. It’s what we’ve come to expect from a Simple Minds album — but not predictable. I strongly recommend this album — esp. to anyone who may have drifted away over the years and forgotten what a great band Simple Minds really is.
My name is Mariana Ilieva, Bulgarian opera singer and pop, composer of pop, rock, modern classica music, for TV and Film, Jazz…
I have education – Musical Academy, specialities – opera singing, piano, italian language, musical pedagogic musical history.
Specialization – opera singing in the class of I. Josifov and class of Raina Kabaivanska in Italy.
In 1995 I started to write music – composer of New Age music.
After I have written “Rainy day”, I was interviewed by the famous music expert Mr. Tom Strostranov. He asked me to write other songs and make an album. In 1998 I finished the album “Cosmic Enigma”.
1999 I was invited in the Bulgarian National TV to make a clip with song “Fantasy”. The album has been presented in many radio trasmissions – in city Sofia – /Horizont radio/, Darik radio, Plovdiv, Stara zagora, TV Evrocom, A& K TV, radio BBC London.
2002 I was invited to a Pop Festival in Siracusa, Sicilia, Italy. Than I made my new album “That what you wanted ” and the two singels “On the way to the end”, and “Angel and Devil”.
This music is a combination of modern classic, disco – rock, opera singing and pop simillar a Sara Brightman, Emma Chapplin.
I am the composer and singer of 4 albums, I also arranged the music.
Now I am looking for some musical companies, for collaboration, concerning, organizing concerts which could present my new music, I need to the producer of music.
Like the interview, it’s good to see that the real passion for music still exists within people like Keith. On several occasions we have been lucky enough to be involved with some of Keith’s creations, such as Unsignedchart and the Xposure live music event held monthly at Rubyz 101 West Hill road Bournemouth.
These events are very special, as a promoter Keith and his team put a lot of energy and resources into getting bands heard and seen, while other promoters are asking, “How many people can you bring to the gig”, this man’s talking “Xposure to new people”
There are many that could do with taking a leaf out of this mans book.
Never really pictured Keith as a Punk Rocker, we reckon he should post a “Blast from the past” photo onto one of his websites.
Recently at Xposure we have been able to film and document some of the great live performances; Monotype, Kasha, The Dastards, 32 miles to Breakfast, Loci, Tall Dark Friend along with many others.
It is good to see that a management deal has been stuck between Unsigned Chart and Tall Dark Friend, a truly talented individual, we’re sure their partnership will be very fruitful for all involved.
Unsigned chart are adding a unique flavour to the music business, with a very personal service for the bands and the fans, directly reflected by the care and effort that all the team put into it.
If you’ve not heard of them, then you should have, whether you’re in a band, a fan of music and live performance, or a slave to sound.

“MP3 offers a higher quality of music again” ? ? ? ?
Wrong. Objectively; subjectively; however it is viewed – an MP3 discards content and cannot be “higher quality” than its source. Just can’t! End of story. Not possible.
When iTunes (for example) make a song available for download, what is their source? Is it a CD the record labels send them? Or do they email the source files to iTunes? Or do they just send the file already in mp3 form?
The point I’m trying to make is just how “watered down” could these mp3 files potentially be? (if at all of course)
And the CD’s that hit our local music store shelves, do the labels burn off a few copies to send to the printers round the world who then distribute them? Is there a diminishing quality conspiracy going on there too?
I’m asking because I simply don’t know and your comment got me thinking.
I do think there is a mis-conception that mp3 offers higher quality (many people I know insist upon its superiority) but I believe this is down to better listening devices. I listen to CD’s at home either on a mac or a cheap CD player I got from Comet. Compared to this ‘cheap’ sound system, my girlfriends iPod’s headphones probably offer much better sound quality even if technically speaking it’s ‘poorer’.
And after all this I must ask, is this poorer quality actually noticeable? Would you feel confident enough to take the ‘Pepsi’ music challenge???
From the information i’ve gathered, there are many different sources from iTunes libraries.
Naturally, the older stuff that’s been converted or remastered to cd format has been placed on iTunes as a secondary source file, that’s been converted once more. Of course, the quality isn’t going to be as fantastic – and yes, it does eliminate the buzz track that we may not hear (but notice if it’s gone)
However! These days, a great deal of recording is done entirely digital, and more often than not the new release mp3 file you can download from iTunes will be a primary source of sound, which does give a better quality. With digital recording it is far cheaper to record straight to mp3 file, or a lossless flac file which helps eliminate any lost sound during mixing.
Then again, ‘quality’ can be completely objective. I prefer cd and record because there’s a different kind of quality and meaning attached to the sound rather than an mp3.
I do agree though – in most cases, even if you didn’t know the original source but the file was played through a decent enough system, it’d be incredibly hard to tell the difference.
Thankyou for such a lovely review of Lee Meads album, Nothing Else Matters.
I am a massive fan of Lees and love this album.
I cannot pick a favourite track as I love them all.
What a gorgeous voice he has.
alot to like,,but a little to processed in the bass /drum section in most tracks,
dry edge growling rock bass with ambient no- edge drum mix,
a little to kareoke for mine..
you need tight melodic bass /drums to compliment the atmospheric vocal/guitar = there best early work…throw away the chord chart and go for it!!
OMG FUGATIVE YOU ARE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FIIIITTTT AND I LOVE YOU SOOOOOOOO MUCH GET UR ASS TO ROCHESTER AMADEUS TO PERFORM COZ WE ALL WANT YOU! WE ALL LOVE YOU
Just been to this festival. Some problems; first of all £55 for a weekend ticket is a definite no-go, particularly because there is absolutely nothing going on Friday night. Do yourself a favour get a Saturday ticket only!! Secondly, it’s absolute murder to get in and they really need to sort out the entrance situation. Thirdly, why the f**k were bands advertised when they were only doing a DJ set (e.g. Pendulum), or advertised as having a ‘full band’ (e.g. Roots Manuva) when they clearly didn’t. Fourthly, turn up the f*****g music!!! The volume was far too low on the mainstage. Fifthly, the food/beer was over priced. Also, what’s with the police presence!? Sniffer dogs/getting searched left right + centre, can’t leave and come back in, not allowed to enter while smoking a fag… I could go on at the list of unbelieveably silly rules which were enforced. All in all, this was a ridiculously expensive festival which was of the size and standard that I’d normally expect for £20 at the most, filled with a load of rich students who seemed more intent on taking photos of each other for their facebook profiles, and being ‘seen’ at the cool tents, than actually enjoying any music (which to be fair, was mostly shite apart from roots manuva, the streets and some of the tents). If this sounds like fun to you than I’d recommend it, otherwise, stay away. Had it not been for the streets I would have been asking for a refund, this was a poorly thought out festival which was clearly about profit over product.
totally agree with you “faces of disco” were fab…. just to let you know… anyone who wants to see the boys in action come to “the harrington arms”, 101 derby road, long eaton, nottingham, ng10 4qb on the 11th july 2009. Sure to be a fab night…the boys will be doing what they do best and then a meet and greet afterwards. Sure to be a fantastic night so pop down for a drink or two and enjoy a fantastic night with us and the “faces of disco”.
This article loses all credibility when the author claims sound quality among mp3′s strengths. It offends me not only that someone would perpetuate such misinformation but also that this comment–more valuable than the article itself–is regulated to the bottom of the page when it clearly belongs at the top.
In reply to youy, Friday night was most definitely worth going for… my friends and I had an amazing night. Also, Pendulum was advertised as a DJ set, not the band, and was still awesome… they had to block off the tent it got so full, and everyone in there was going crazy for the music. The drinks were fairly average for a festival, I’d even say on the low side of festival prices. The volume on the mainstage was about as loud as it could go without any local residents compaining. I thought the police there was a good thing, as there were quite a few dodgy people trying to get in. The police were pretty good natured as well, they saw a lot of people skinning up and sniffing stuff but just left them to it. They did take down a guy selling GHB, but surely that’s a good thing? Not being allowed to enter while smoking wasn’t really a problem, just light up once you’re in there… most of the security didn’t really care.
All in all I thought Mad Ferret was well worth the money, and cheap if anything. The D&B was amazing, there was plenty to keep you occupied if you weren’t up for dancing, everyone was friendly and chatty and it was a great lay out. THe only problem I had there was there were too few toilets. I had to wait about 40 minutes on the friday, but there seemed to be more on Saturday, so the queue was only about 20 minutes. Not too bad for a festival really.
brokencyde is amazing in everyway. its the best band ever. there funny and they are truthful. they aint going to write some lameass songs about love or a girl, there not old yet so they shouldent worry about finding domeone at such a young age. kaaaay(: there amazing and people are just GEEKiiN okaaay. so think aboiut things before you post shiit like thiiis. and you have to be retarded to not know about bree so whatever your lameee D
I thought the police presence was completely overdone……. Mad ferret was a friendly good natured festival and whilst a police presence is required, to
to arrive to a long line of bullet proof vest clad paramilitary looking police is quite distressing, are we living in a police state????
There was no trouble that I noticed unlike your average weeked at the printworks which probably has more people passing through and far more drunks and idiots and fights breaking out….. and far less police to control them.
The police wasted a fantastic oppertunity to promote themselves amongst young adults as trustworthy and approachable, I found so many of them lining the entrance intimidating……… I remember the old rave days when the police would let dogs run into a crowd causing panic… people getting crushed, having them stand around a party beating their shields….. fortunatly they werent anywhere near to their old intimidating self but….. the numbers of them was completely uncalled for and I am sure the cost has caused a financial crisis amonget the mad ferret organisation
The MP3 format is a “lossy” compressed audio format. It is in no way higher quality than a CD. An MP3 is created by compressing and stripping information from the original, lossless source (whether that be a CD or a lossless audio file like FLAC or Apple Lossless for example). Most folks won’t hear the difference between a well ripped 256kbps MP3 and lossless if the audio is heard through cheap earbuds played from an iPod or computer speakers
Find a real set of speakers, I mean some really high quality ones, and do this little experiment. Grab a copy of iTunes. Get a CD of beautiful, dynamic music. Rip a few test tracks into MP3 format @ 128kbps and 256kbps. Then, rip the same tracks into Apple Lossless, or simply use the CD (same lossless audio experience), and have a listen on high quality speakers (not computer speakers). If you’re on quality home entertainment equipment, you’ll hear a difference.
I guess my point is this, why settle for lossy music in an age when hard drive space is getting cheaper and cheaper. Storing lossless audio files is getting easy to do, so why not archive lossless audio instead of lossy MP3s which you’ll probably regret down the road. You can always convert one format of lossless audio to another without losing quality (lossless to lossless), but try converting an MP3 to an AAC format or OGG. You’ll lose a significant amount of audio information every time you convert because you’ll be compressing even more and throwing out even more information. You’ll start to hear audio artifacts.
Well I for one think BrokenCYDE is amazing. I don’t see why everyone hates them. I guess they’re just afraid of them or something. And to Jim. Most of us are literate for your information. Or is it just me.. Ah I donno. But, Yeah.. Haters can go to hell and keep their oppinions to themselves because no one wants to hear them.
Simple Minds in fine form here! Probably more cohesive than 050505, it takes you on a very enjoyable ride. Charlie Burchill’s guitar work is out front where it belongs and there is a classic Simple Minds spark to a number of tracks which will remind of New Gold Dream and Sparkle In The Rain!
i love micheal jackson so much and we will never forget him. he is my role model because i am only 10 years of age. when i was 5 i would dance around the house doing all the moves of micheal jackson. but now i dance the way he does and i really mean it. at school i am always put in the school plays because they have seen me dancing like micheal in the playground. my family say i am really good at dancing like him. he IS the king of pop, the one and only king of pop. R.I.P micheal
What can i say about Michael Jackson, He was and will always be the King of Pop i can honestly say the world was a better place with him in it. Now the world as lost the best performer and humanitarian ever. Me personaly i am in shock of his sudden death i wasn’t the biggest fan but i loved his music and grew up on it. I believed that he would have lived a long life and would bring records out in decades to come. It still leaves a lump in my throat when i hear his music. The tribute song by his brother Jermaine “Smile” made me cry it really did say the way i felt. The memorial was a fitting tribute to Michael and i wish his family all the best.
Michael wherever you are “I love you and will never forget you”.

first point; yeah, i totally believe you’re not a christian. second point; are you suggesting that christianity represents good? brainwashing people and telling them what do? woo, righteousness. third point; sex, drugs and rock and roll man, jesus doesn’t fit into that shit.
Lovin this single and what a cool review – knew these girls would get some great support eventually their first single was good but unfortunately didn’t chart – hopefully this will get them on the map…..
Generally, McFly reviews are harsh from the beginning because of former journalist prejudice but this is a fair review.
Personally, I haven’t ever been a big fan of McFly (I was put off by all the manic, teenybopper fans and their irritating, shrill screaming), but when I travelled away from the UK to my cousin’s home in Australia, it appeared she was utterly obsessed with McFly as well. It was a fair judgement, I guessed, because she was intelligent and definitely NOT psychotic.
And so one day when I came home I saw her dancing along to the McFly Radio:Active DVD and was mildly alarmed. I understand how this review wanted more of a focus on slower acoustics, but as I love harder, faster sounds, McFly’s music really appealed to me.
Admittedly, McFly have some real talent which it is rare to find nowadays. Sure, music from their CD’s and what you hear on the radio is quite good… but I honestly admit that their Live music is much, much better. It’s very rare to come across bands which can write, sing and play their own music… not to mention keep up the energy these guys do on stage!
I’ll relay some of my experiences with playing gigs and you can make of them what you will.
Venues/promoters ask you to bring so many people to your gig (usually 20-30) at £3 – £4 pp. Each of the four or so bands on the bill do this so the venue get money from these tickets and at the bar.
The followers of each band tend to only get there in time and stay long enough to see their friends band. If you’re on first or last no one is there early enough or has stayed to see you. If you play second or third you may get a certain ‘over-spill’ from the other bands followers.
If you’ve made contact with local music media or other promoters, they may be there to see you so they can get an idea of what you’re like as a live band. when it’s just them and a load of your mates this can be of some consolation.
This scenario, and slight variations of it, is what I’ve come to know. Very few acts breaking through seem to be doing it the ‘old school’ way. They seem to have relations/contacts with something like the Brit School (when did this place emerge exactly???) or got heard on myspace which is now so over-saturated I think it’s pretty much defunct as far as using it as a tool to promote your band, unless you already have a decent following already.
I recently read an article (can’t remember where, may have been the Big Issue, Q magazine or Planet Sound but don’t quote me on that) where an A & R guy was told that there were enough female solo acts (there are a few around at the moment- Florence and the Machine, La Roux, Bat For Lashes, Lady Gaga, though some definitely deserve the praise) and they need to start signing bands again.
Surely if bands were good enough they’d be getting signed anyway? Or were they being overlooked because they couldn’t take advantage of the female solo revolution?
There’s more to it than this of course but in a nutshell, the music business is just that, a business, and if the people running the show can’t make money off it they lose interest and do things in a way where they can make money, whether that’s to fund the signing of acts that are not entirely mainstream or just to line their pockets is another question.
It’s now necessary to remind people that it’s for reasons like this that made Anthony Wilson…
…such an important figurehead in music.
I saw clips of Britney Spears comeback on television recently and noticed how she mimed many songs. Okay she may dance a lot, but I’ve seen Girls Aloud in concert (I’m allowed one guilty pleasure aren’t I?!) and they don’t mime despite very energetic dance routines.
But anyway, my point is that soon enough isn’t the next stage in ‘manufactured’ pop that the person performing isn’t actually the singer on the record? They’re just a good-looking talented dancer who can impressively represent the music on the live stage?
This is worrying enough without just realising that ultimately this means that Milli Vanilli weren’t cheats, they were just years ahead of their time!
One team writes the music, another records it and a ‘performer’ tours and promotes the product. This could mean a world in the future where musicians like Jimi Hendrix, Radiohead, David Bowie, Blur, Joy Division, Manic Street Preachers – the list could go on – wouldn’t have the opportunity or be given the chance to make music as a career.
For entertainment purposes it’s all fun and games and harmless enough, but if fewer and fewer labels, promoters etc. are catering for the needs (and demands from the fans) of bands who write, record and perform their music, then it’s something that could end up going underground but even then people will be needed who are going to provide a venue and other resources in order for this kind of thing to even happen.
Nine times out of ten the overall sound level at a gig is too high so your ears just hurt (and when they ring afterwards and leave you unable to get to sleep that’s because permanent damage has been caused) so I find earplugs act as a kind of noise gate, blocking out all the excess noise and improving the sound quality.
The only gig I’ve been to where the sound level has been spot on was A Perfect Circle at Manchester Apollo on their Thirteenth Step tour in February 2004. All instruments mixed perfectly and the sound level was just right *thumbs up*
So happy to read such an excellent blog, nice post. I saw your blog after suggesting by businessvartha. I love this and so proud to vote for this beautiful blog. I think you should listen to this album a bit more and use less ink in your pen & more ear to the music & yes he is brilliant live!!Unfortunately this smacks of a predictably english review.
We appreciate everyone’s comments and feedback on work we publish on music.co.uk, however reviews are partly subjective, and therefore opinions will differ between fans, reviewers and everyone else.
A fair review, but I must say, a lot of the conversation in between songs has been edited out of the DVD, for times sake I’m guessing, but had you witnessed the concert live and in all its glory, you most definately would have seen just how much stage presence they have. I’m 16, and have been obsessed with McFly since the very beginning, and I have a tendency to jump around and scream a little at their concerts, so maybe that puts me in the ‘teeny bopper’ category, but regardless, I can safely say that, in my opinion, they are one of the (if not the) greatest live acts around at the moment. If people judged them less on their earlier stuff and went to see, I believe they’d agree with me. (:
I have just been on the website to book the shuttle bus to retrofest for people who’ve booked accomadation on Glasgow the buses are running 9.30 10.30 & 11.30 you can’t even book into a hotel till 2pm, so what good is the shuttle bus to us!!!! we’re coming from Edinburgh and what started out as a fun day has turned into a nightmare I’ve emailed retrofest but I don’t hold out much hope of getting an answer only bought tickets because it was in the centre of Glasgow and booked into The Jury Inn which is next to Glasgow Green
Sorry to hear you’ve had troubles and I hope the organisers will take in to account your considerations. Sadly nothing is perfect, but I would’ve thought they’d run a few more buses. Hope you still had fun.

Wife and I had a smashing weekend, good location and music, so big thanks to all involved. Only one moan, we could do with a few more shower units next time though, as most mornings there was over an hour’s waiting time. That aside, we are alrady looking forward to the next one. Now to get some sleep
We are already guessing the artists for 2010…there is going to be another festival isn’t there? …..please…please…..
Also, make sure you have Jayson Jaurique back as his accoustic sets by the beer and cider tents made our weekend, they were wicked!
I agree with the need for more toilets, showers and coffee vans in the camp site area though, as it wasn’t great having to wait up to an hour for a coffee and shower in the morning….
Thanks for a great weekend though, will definately be back next year and with more of us too……
WOW!!! a FAB weekend, great music, great people and great weather what more could we ask for, oh yeah a few more coffee vans and showers in the campsite, please!! Can’t wait for next years!!!!! There will be one, please???
They tried to combine to genres that really shouldn’t go together, EVER! Crunk fans won’t like the screamo and screamo fans won’t like the crunk, they’re two genres that should be left alone. They make bands like metro station and hellogoodbye sound good.
Fair enough if you like them but, britttanyyy and Destiny you two sound like a pair of fan girls.
There are LOADS of bands out there with tonnes more talent than BrokenCYDE that deserve their break much more than them.

Is there a mailing list to receive updates on next years event? I missed this year due to V and was absolutely gutted…. Do not want to miss out on tickets for 2010.
My friends & I had a great weekend & are really looking forward to doing it again. Everyone had their favourites, but highlights were Real Thing, Rick Astley, ABC, Billy Ocean & Sister Sledge. Organisation was great, sun shone & much beer was consumed. I heard on the grapevine that if this year was a success then next year the ticket availability would be doubled. If this is true I think the atmosphere would be spoiled and also there would have to be more toilets, showers, food availability.
Since his contract expired and he became a free agent, Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) has been posting pieces of advice for musicians trying to get their projects going.
This is a link to a post on nin.com…
…definitely worth reading.
The main overtone which I’d like to place emphasis on is that if you really love writing and performing music it doesn’t have to be to tens of thousands of people.
You can arrange your own local gigs selling whatever merchandise you can for a small profit. Over several gigs you’ll accumulate a nice little kitty which can be put towards something to help your music get across. i.e.. a better designed website, band t-shirts, pay to have your CDs packaged in a more professional manner.
As I’ve stated in other posts, music is ultimately a business so even if you are a great musician and you have a knack for writing great songs, it doesn’t mean you’ll get signed. Playing to a handful of people (if any!) can be disheartening, but with the right frame of mind you can see getting your music across as a challenge and welcome it with open arms.
Using the internet to get in touch with music sites who may review your latest CD and publish that review can be a great promotional tool. Even if the site’s based in Kuala Lumpur, its readers’ can still download your music via iTunes or myspace for example.
I certainly wish the best of luck to anyone who tries to make it for themselves in the music business.
Had a fab weekend – perfect in every way ….apart from lack of toilets and showers. Having said that, it didnt spoil anything. The sight of thousands of fortysomethings dressed up, having a blast was great. Bring on 2010 !!
Some great points there, the fact about loving doing it is of course very true, nice one with the link too. I guess I was making the points to try and make the best of dealing with the small amounts of time and resources unsigned bands have to use. Anything that allows for more flexibility and leeway should be looked into
what a brilliant weekend. I took my teenage daughter with me and we both had a real good time, ideal for familys. Well worth the 5hr train journey!!. Would love to see it again next year but like previous posts must be more showers and food/drink availability in the camping area. Also more funfair rides please -where were the waltzers???(surely a must for the 80′s). Comedy store tent was an absolute blast and was excellant – a must for next year!. Please please do not double the ticket availability next year as would spoil the whole festival as it was just right this year. PLEASE PLEASE do it again next year and there will be more of us travelling down as the location was beautiful. Oh and keep it for the same weekend as the V festival – gives us “oldies” something to do! he he. BRING ON 2010! xx
Just been looking on the facebook site and they have some really good ideas if it was done again next year. So if anyone important is reading this – here goes:-
Bigger Comedy Store Tent / or maybe 2 Tents
Proper Disco not Silent Disco
More Funfair rides
More Showers
Less Artists but Artists given a longer slot
Food/Drink to be cheaper as everyone thought it to expensive
Personally i think the organisers would be MAD not to do another rewind festival next year, considering this year is the “credit crunch” year and already people want tickets for next year.
Michael Jackson…a great artist that we idolize…we will miss you…were still going to support u even your already in heaven…you may rests in peace together with the angels up there….we love you Mr. MJ….ur very kind…
Excellent advice Rich is giving out there … Unsigned artists/bands can go a long way with a little effort and some careful thought as to how to maximize the free time and little funds they do have…
Plus there’s great satisfaction in managing your own affairs; when I first started out I couldn’t wait to sign my first publishing deals…
But last year I was over the moon when I managed to negotiate my way out of every single one of my old contract assignments and be independent again…
Funny how far we have to go to find out that we were already in the best place to begin with -lol!! I’ve had loads more success (and fun) since I’ve been an independent artist again -so, done properly, I really recommend it!!
… and if you’re really after a deal; you’ll get a lot more attention from companies if you’re already filling venues and have a bunch of great recordings that are already selling well among your fans…
The advice in the blog entry above is an absolutely great starting place (I love the idea of wondering round a disjointed venue before you go on stage to tell folks you’re about to play -even I haven’t tried that one; I will next time though-lol!) Nice one Rich!!
Fantastic article; and so good to see that music fans and musicians are becoming a lot more savvy when it comes to the dangers of hearing loss/damage…
Another great use earplugs is when musicians are having a lot of regular or loud (or both -lol!) rehearsals in a studio/practice room. All that loud music in a very confined space can lead to some really unhealthy sound levels…
I’ve known a few friends who have developed hearing problems due to playing loud music, and I haven’t entirely got off quite Scot-free myself… though fortunately I realised the error of my ways.
I used to think that hearing loss, involved the world getting quieter -lol! But nothing is further from the truth…
My friends tell me that you usually don’t even notice you have hearing damage… until one day when you’re out in a slightly noisy place like a pub, and you’re suddenly struggling to follow a conversation, because you’ve lost some of the top end range of your hearing!
…and at some point you notice that there’s a permanent hum or hiss in your ears… Apparently the worse the hearing loss is, the louder the hum gets.
I love making and listening to music, so nowadays I’m fanatical about protecting my hearing… I do understand that sometimes it’s impossible to play quietly and still get a good sound (for e.g. some guitar amps only sound great driven really hard) so earplugs can be a musicians best friend.
I admit that I did feel a little foolish the first time I turned up at a band rehearsal with my earplugs… but pretty soon I wasn’t the only one wearing them -lol!!
Wife didn’t want to go, as she had a gut feeling about a lack of showers and loos.
Went with a mate for the whole weekend, what a fantastic, trouble free, totally enjoyable experience.(need more coffee shops)
The promoters need to pat theirselves on the back.
This was one hell of a success and I want to go back now.
Personally, Id say a poor review from the NME is a badge of honour considering the rubbish they seem to continually hype up.
Anyway, saw these guys at Reading and they were brilliant. Really tight and energetic, great vocals, got the crowd going and as it was on the bbc introducing stage loads of ppl walking by were drawn in and by the end they had a massive crowd for their timeslot.
The thought of camping, outside toilets, log wet grass in the mornings etc for an entire weekend filled me with dread………..BUT damn glad I did it. Absolutely wicked weekend. Music was fab especially Billy Ocean, heaven 17 and Howard Jones , and the silent disco I have to say was the best laugh out. Agree with some of the comments above when are you doing 2010? as some of us have to book our holiodays a year in advance!! Don’t let us miss out thanks to all who arranged it and yes don’t let it get too big unless its our tickets that take it over the 20,000!
This was a really great weekend. Loved the silent disco I have never laughed so much. Defo need more coffee and food bars to be open in the morning and more toilets and washing facilities. Will defo be going next year. It was a lovely sunny weekend but just one thought for next year, If it rains there is no where to shelter.
What a fantastics weekend,This has to be a must for next year.7 hours in our vw camper to get there but more than worth it,even met some new friends there travelled for 13 hours to get there from Scotland. One of the most chilled festivals that i have been to,good family atmos,no trouble,no drunks spoling the fun…Big thanks to all those involved
I’ve noticed that in the culture of ringtone etiquette something happen these last few months…a return of the classic ringtone. So perhaps we are going to see the way out with music ringtones!
as for “ringtones are not music” check with your friendly local licensing authority, who I am sure would explain to you how ringtones are music, even the classic “ring ring”
I say put the vibration option on and save everyone the pain of watching you embarass yourself because you think people actually care about your ringtone!
i don’t listen to that christian rock because i think somebody wants to brainwash me – it’s more that i don’t want to hear anything from braindead people who still and even officially believe in gods…

Just heard the tracks on youtube; i love them!…So Cold is soooo catchy and Wolves has a message everyone can relate to.I will definately be looking out for Young O…the producer is so of an international Calibre as well; definately stars in the making.
Hi
With the Film about Dr Feelgood being released in October at the London film festival are you planning to do anything with the few remaining artists from that era (Wilko Johnson, Steve Hooker and Lew Lewis) I know that both Steve and Wilko have cut a few tracks together some of which are unreleased.
It seems to me to be a great opportunity to showcase the longevity of the music scene in and around Essex.
Regards
David Dimech
Just a heads up for everyone, tickets are already on sale for next year Which is fantastic! I’ve already bought mine for the weekend.
You can only buy weekend tickets at the moment for a short period, then they will wait to sell day tickets once the line up has been confirmed, which I assume will be around March/April next year. I can’t wait!!!!
Regarding Heather’s post (Above) I think they should stick to the same concept as this year, lots of acts for half an hour each. It’s the perfect set up as you get to hear all their classic, popular tunes…. Meaning if you don’t particularly like the artist, you still recognise the songs and don’t have to wait long for someone you do really like.
I really hope they don’t lessen the number of acts. This year was perfect!
Rich, great advice! Surprised that you didn’t mention online publishing for unsigned bands. There are a number of sites that offer this, including my own. (Unashamed plug coming). offers an unsigned artist:
- their own webstore (www.evildosh.com/artist_name)
- purchase price setting (can be free)
- the ability to create ringtones to sell on the store
- upload as many mp3′s as they like
- Retain 60% net of sales with no charges
We are also in the process of putting the final touches on help with promotion costs for the most popular artists on the site.
Glad you liked the article Clive, team music.co.uk has written a few initial pieces, and will be building up more resources and advice, interviews coming soon as we re-work the sites structure. Lauren Team Music.co.uk

Lauren, nothing against your oppinion but i think Jenny is absolutly right. Get another job…something u love…not something u have to do. Sry…music.co.uk…lol.
Unfortunately i agree with many of the points raised by Rich. I’m not in a band myself, but have contact wit many artists and promoters through my work with Keynote. It would appear that if some promoters show interest in a band, but that band trys to hold out for better paying shows rather than pack the house and take a cut, they are passed by as the promoter knows the next person will agree to anything just to play – deciding its better to play than not.
As for gigging in London, unless your based in London the effort and cost associated with playing would usually leave the band at a financial loss.
On a more positive note, there are lots of venues willing to give new/unsigned music a stage. Keynote’s planning to start putting on showcases using bands and artists from the Keynote Unsigned website. We’re not planning to make money from these showcases, but instead cover the costs of the gig, then let the bands divi up the rest. Seems the fairest way to us.
All the best.
devestating that such a talented and wonderful person should be taken so young all my thought are with his friends family and loved ones at this most difficult time
god bless
I’ll be buying it. Jamie is just fantastic and certainly does not deserve to be called ‘just’ a jazz musician – he’s got a real talent sadly lacking with so many of the prefabricated bands we see today.
four of us went from youngest 12 y/o to me a mere 39 y/o, we all enjoyed the whole set up,
if i were to send any message to the organiser’s it would be that the sound set up did seem to cause a lot of problems for the acts
I feel that the food was very expensive, did expect a real 80′s disco to finnish the night, it was a let down with the silent disco money making by charging for headphones though the place was packed and so was the comedy tent so never even got into either!
i would drop bannanarama they are rubbish i saw the powderham castle 80′s festival before i had gone to the rewind festival and they were useless there aswell moaning about the backing track and not singing in time to it!!!!
If they have to sing along to tape dont have them in 2010!!
HOWARD JONES WAS AMAZING i have seen so many people saying he was the best on yet he was on so early he should be headlining, but then they were all absolutely brilliant exept banannarama!!!!
We will all be going to next years infact i think that i will be with about another 20 people i have talked into coming aswell so get your tickets early!
Shakey is the best and most well respected promoter in Essex and other promoters can only hope to be as successful and liked as he is. Not only does he attract local bands but he can command bands from across the country and from as far as the States. Anyone within drivable distance to Chelmsford should come and check out his nights and the bands playing for him.
Fingers crossed for the new venue!
Great interview!
Shakey’s a legend around the Chelmsford area. It’s great to know there’s still somebody around keeping the local music scene alive and supporting the many bands and artists struggling to find gigs anywhere now there’s becoming less venues about.
Our band; Osmium Guillotine (www.myspace.com/osmiumguillotine), has only been going a few months, but Shakey has supported us from day one by giving us slots at his nights, which we are very grateful for! Cheers.

Long live Leona Lewis!!!She is such an amazing and influential person. Now she’s even influencing the rock scene – see this cover of Bleeding Love by rock band Mirrorkicks for example (I love it)…
Brokencyde doesnt have talent if you ask me, sounds like their voices are altered dramatically, bet if you see them live they will either lip sing or suck ass!
Hah! We encourage anyone that agrees with Danny to send in their own review, of this or any other gig… We want those people that *think* they can do better to go ahead and prove it!
Thanks Lauren.Just going through this keeps me updated with the prize winners.Else it becomes really difficult to keep in tuch with the prize winners names.Although i am busy with my work i can still keep a view about the winners if it is regularly posted like this… waiting for my luck to shine !!!!
o yea, that pic shows mitch’s tattoos have developed
still think Olis r better, tho! (but laughed at oli’s used himself as a doodle pad)
hey Beth, i’m gonna get a skull on my chest like oli and Mitch, but with the skull lower down (nrly in between my nips ) and with the wings going all the way up to my shoulders
any1 got any other ideas bout what I shud have? want to make first 1 good!!!!
i thought that it was cruel what happened on the show last night, jamelia could of said nothing and just not taken part in that particular part of the quiz. it was like watching bullys attack someone! everyone took the side of jamelia, possibably because they know what its like to have story sold on them. the producers of the show should of known that maxwell D and Jamelia was not going to be a good combination.
elo mate my rap names leckey and ive write over 30 hot songs i know it sounds big headed but i know im better than most now days i spit real life stuff i know u would love its your kinfdo f music all i need is a chance to prove myself i live in spain at the min and ive bin gettin loads of radio play but im still not signed i dont know what to do next if u can call me on 0034655499219
The photo of Mitch isn’t his most tattoo’d ‘nor his best photo, but he is my favourite out of the two, though! However, I like Oli”s tattoo’s more I think, just for the simple reason that they aren’t as dark as Mitch’s.
tbh mitch is better by far
ive seen both
oli sucks live, its eather he cant be fucking arsed to do a good show or he is generally shit
mitch is just awesome
This album, its two predecessors and the many others like them hold a mirror up to british society today; standards plummeting to the lowest common denominator with lashings of saccharine banal mediocrity. the crossover genre is an all round menace and has fooled the public in thinking that is the extent of ‘classical music’ today.

what a fantastic album coming home so moveing the last post brings tears to my eyes all our wonderfull soldiers who are out there deserve so much more all our wouded soldiers deserve more if only everyone realised what our soldiers do and the danger they put there lives in every day and night then our soldiers who are wounded then all the wonderfull soldiers who never came back rip godbless and thank you for your service
This struck a chord in me. Last night, a friend and I were at a concert discussing this very thing. We agreed that music doesn’t function like it used to. It seems to function like any other sort of entertainment. I went to Bonnaroo a couple of years ago. Overall I enjoyed it, but I couldn’t help notice how apathetic people seemed. Most just consumed the music and moved onto the next stage. I recently watched a documentary of the first woodstock. I was so enamored with the passion, purpose, and the complete lack of pretense/lip service. I’m kind of an aspiring musician. Your last paragraph is encouraging because is more about reformation than a complete abandonment. Thanks for writing!
fuck oli
mitch lucker is friggin amazing,
&+ hes beautiful <3
oli's tattoos are okay but the pic of mitch is outdated.
his piece is finished now and waaaaaay better
Brilliant! Well done Jamlelia! Karma really does come around for real! Although, it’s a shame it took for that to happen for you to apologise to her Maxwell D! Oh well, still made great entertainment.
Jamelia needs to concentrate on her music game.. were forgetting what she actually does. (apart from being extremley negative) always got something to say, she should say it on her music. Max D wrong at the time. selling stories is a part of showbiz u have to deal with it. Retaliating proves that it is tru!! Anyways Jamelia’s career is FINISHED cause she’s got tough competition ie, Alexandra Burke, Leona Lewis thats what she needs to concentrate on!! she’s the worst vocalist i know… good luck….
I was at the christmas switch on in chelmsford on sunday, fantastic event this year WELL DONE!! Have to say, surprised there hasnt been more written about the winner of the tallent competition, BIANCA HALL
This young girl was absouletly fantastic, beautiful voice and surely a big future ahead of her. she was easily on a par with the more experienced acts preceeding her “well done young lady”!!
ilove himm… he is a mint singer……i really wanna see him live and i would want backstage passes…..grr i really want to see him xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (:
What is good sound is subjective. Most youth prefer the sizzling sound of MP3s, that’s music for them… some audiophiles or kids who lived during the retro years prefers vinyl, they love the warm sound (with some crackling), some prefers the zero-noise CD… while most of us in the third world prefers cassette tape, we love the warm sound with hisses.
hey ur gorgeous, am in2 ya music n ya gorgeous. am a model from london lol i wud like to go in2 music, u shud go in2 modellin coz ya stunnin, armani modellin or sumtin.
what an amazing unselfish album noones forgotten , all aspects of the military as well as the familys at home waiting anxiously for their loved ones ,and colleagues whove lost lives . Well done guys and maximum respect good luck and stay safe xx
I saw Mitch at the House of Blues in north myrtle beach sc and his tatoos were amazing and he was the best vocalist that is alive right now no exageration
Anthony Garratt you sad sad man have some bloody respect. They are fab and helping to raise money for injured troops which lets hope you never have to see anyone you know go through.
i see that you’re not a fan of mcfly. sure, i was not, when i didn’t know about mcfly at all. but from the first time i heard them, from the first seconds i watched their videos, i fell in love with them that seconds. not because of how good-looking they are. maybe that is one reason, but mostly because of their talents. have you realized they are SO MUCH better live than when they record their album?
you know, some people are better when they record their album than singing live, but mcfly is the vice versa. that’s good, doesn’t it? it proves to people that they are really talented, and really good.
one thing, i’m from brunei. and i just can’t fly from brunei to london just to see them, because somehow, i am not a rich girl. if i am, and if i have lots of money, the ONLY reason why i would want to go to london would be because of mcfly.
they’ve been so much matured with their singing. i want to have the DVD, like so bad. but i can’t. because i’ve been searching for it in brunei, but they don’t sell it. and i’m like so disappointed. i’d never wanted a DVD this bad, but ever since i saw them live on youtube, and when i realized i can’t go to london, i want this DVD.
why? a very good question, indeed. because i know, their live version are so much better.
and i’m not insulting, but mcfly is seriously the best band i’ve ever come across. they don’t do lip syncing, as what most of people will do. i agree with what gemma and minna wrote. you wrote a fair review, but maybe because you’re into acoustic version, you’re not that into mcfly.
and i write this comment, just because i want the world to know, mcfly really is a great band. their songs are catchy, their lyrics are funny, and sometimes sad, but still good, they are being themselves in front of the crowd, they are crazy but i love it. they are just…them.
gee, i guess i’m writing too much. i’m sorry. i can’t help but to be obsessed with them. i used to be obsessed with them, but now i’m falling in love with them.
and i’m so sorry if i’m talking nonsense here. i’m so so so sorry.
Upon reflection, I do this band a diservice. I myself, look towards the future and to a world where crossover music not only prepares the individual for true classical music but helps clarify their tastes in other genres too. Personally, I think that music snobs like myself have looked down their noses at this new wave of talented musicians for too long. I am fully prepared to admit that there is a place in the industry for these kind of bands and feel that their presence may actually help a current generation of under educated children approach what has until now been a highly academic area of the music world. Perhaps my tone was slightly arrogant, I know it is a label us music snobs deserve
Some of my Christian friends are the smartest and coolest people I know. None of them want to try and brainwash people and live honest lives.
Anti-religion stuff in Metal and Rock is very cliche in my opinion, and seeing that atheists are seemingly getting what they want with declining numbers of people attending church, then the ‘shock value’ if any has worn off.
I don’t have a problem with Christian Metal whether they talk about Christianity or not; it would be petty if I did.
Well Heeey..
tasha,15, and i love your songs your new spafly is the best, ii love yuo too and if ii could meet you one day that will be my dream come true, some people are lucky and they actually do but ii now ii will get the chance one day, you are absolutley gorgeous and ii would love to be just mates with with you, but everyone knows that wont happen.lol.:D.you are on my laptop all it is, is you. you are so lucky to be that fit at your age, and ii would love to have a pic with you are sumin and ii would love to get know you, ii always listen to your music, tht is all ii actaully listen to, ii am hopefully going to come to one of you concerts maybe when you are in swindon again ii will come and see you, but all ii am gunna say is ii love you and your are really sexy and you are really lucky having ll these girls after you. but ii would love to be the lucky one, dreams can come true. love you babeeey,, see you soon MWAAH…xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Libby sang this in front of several thousand people at various Christmas Lighting up ceremonies throughout Essex last Christmas. It had excellent reviews and was also aired frequently on local radio stations including BBC Radio Essex. Libby is a very talented young singer and she has a great voice.
It’s Christmas (Party Time) has the potential to be a huge Christmas hit. It is really catchy and definitely stays in your head. I have 2 children and out of all the normal Christmas songs you get on Now Xmas etc. the one they keep singing and asking for again is this one.
Now for a start the arrangement of ‘Just One of Those Things’ that you are so eager to slate is in fact by Frank Foster (look him up). I think that fact speaks for itself, though I would just like to clarify that it is usual, even expected, for a jazz standard to open with a slow introductory section. The track makes use of the original Cole Porter arrangement, as well as borrowing a lick from Monk (which I personally feel is very well used). Now I do not generally take issue with reviews that have a negative stance, but I feel it shows a serious lack of journalistic insight to not be able to present the facts, or give a sense of balance. In your criticism of the arrangement you have ignored all of these classic influences, and so have automatically discredited your own review.
I think you need to qualify your use of the term puzzling. The album is very poppy, and so for the most part I don’t see how the songs could puzzle a person, though, obviously I would be interested to hear an actual dissection of the difficulties that the tracks experience, this is always useful in a review. I personally believe that the variation of tempos and styles used in the songs provides a lot of the interest. This is something that a lot of modern music is lacking, take the reggae breakdown three and a half minutes into ‘mixtape’ for example.
Now obviously the album isn’t ever going to straight down the line jazz. This is, after all, Jamie Cullum. However, I don’t think that his non-Jazz tracks need to be considered as experiments (failed or otherwise). He knows what he’s doing, after all he has been at it a while!
Either way, I think your review is absolutely right to point out the flaws in the album, but I think you need to be more coherent and justified in your criticism. This review just served to infuriate me rather than inform me, and so now I have bought and listened to the album I feel a need to post my thoughts just to settle the score. Give it a bit more thought next time.
Each format has its own pros and cons. My stereo has a turntable, 8-track, cassette tape, CD and an iPhone dock.
Vinyl records offer a more hands-on experience, you can see the music being played! The records smell, look and feel nice. They have a page of linear notes with them and 7 or 12 inches of artwork that come with it. Vinyl also has a warm, natural, deep, round, rich sound to it. They are also very durable, there are some records from 1900s that you can still play with special augmentations.
Eight tracks can sound pretty good if you have a well calibrated player and preserve your tapes carefully. They’re dirt cheap too. You can buy one at Salvation Army for $0.25.
Cassette tapes are durable and great for in-car listening. They’re easy to load, no tracks to select, they also play from where you stop them. They also don’t get scratched or fingerprints on them like CDs tend to do in cars. They also have good treble response, great for classical and jazz music.
CDs are a great for their convenience. Its easy to burn extra copy for friends/family. The tracks make music easy to find. They offer a clear, clean, cool, pure sound. Shock protection on portable CD players is a great innovation also.
MP3s are great for their portability. 1000s of songs on something the size of a cracker. As long as the bit-rate isn’t below 128k, it’ll sound great. You can download these from Amazon, Kazaa, or, if you so shiftily inclined, illegally O.O
AACs are an improved form of MP3, more sound per byte of data. They sound way warmer and fuller than MP3. You can download these from iTunes Store.
WMAs are the best codec, they’re half the file size of MP3. A 64k WMA file sounds as “good” as a 128k MP3. I download podcasts in this format.
I believe that each generation has its own preferred music format.
The baby boomers lamented Vinyl becoming a mere novelty.
Generation X lamented the passing of the tapes and mix-tapes.
Generation Y will lament the passing of Music CDs.
Someday, Generation Z will mourn the iPod being surpassed by some other form of “miracle” music technology.
Where do you start with Mr Garrett, If you have served in the forces you should hang your head in shame as a human being, what ever your politics on the war in Aganistan or other places come to that.
If not, then I suggest to “sign up”. As for their songs, they beat X factor Hands down – and more!!.
I suggest you redeem yourself and go to the Help4Heroes website and look at what happening in the real world. Or like me go to Wootton Bassett and see for yourself that you are “alone”.
Thank you for replying, we always welcome feedback on our posts, and it’s useful to hear of things we can better explain and expand. I think the point you make about standard Jazz introductions isn’t entirely relevant however, as I am simply giving my opinion on what I am hearing, whether it is traditional and true to the genre or not. Also every journalist comes at a CD from a different angle,
and with different writing styles, skill sets, and knowledge….the same goes for readers…so where some of his fans for example find the point of view of a pop fan interesting, other readers like you look for something different. It’s natural and not to be slated.
So a review is not necessarily going to be a run down of all the songs and their backgrounds, or an indepth analysis of musical arrangements. I had a press release and track by track rundown to refer to, and in that Jamie speaks of how he experiments with ways or recording and musical arrangements, but I appreciate some things can be taken in a different way. I have tried to be honest and fair, whether people agree with that or not is all part and parcel of the business we call music.
Anyone basing the results on Betfair odds is an idiot. Those odds are based on the bets people are making, not facts about sales figures. They reflect punters’ uninformed guesses and nothing else.
Think you are the idiot, a Bookie adjusts the odds he offers based on numerous factors, one of them being the number of bets taken.. others are things like “inside information” and common sense!
Please make sure you know what you are saying before you start yacking rubbish!
Betfair is not a normal bookies, it puts people v people rather than a company setting odds. Thats why we included it as its proven to be right eg. in football management changes!
Hello i travelled with festivalbus and all i can say is DONT DO IT! They got us there at midnight on the first day so we all missed half of the concert! we are still waiting for our compensation – first we were told by max that he will take the coach company to court and if he wins he’ll pay us! He lost his court case of course – then we were told that if he had a successfull year then he would pay us! Guess what? still no compensation!!!! pay up max you owe 45 of us our compensation! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!
I wasn’t really interested in Rage, any song with swear words, or the lacklustre xfactor song which doesnt do Joe justice…though I did wonder how many people brought the song just to prove a point….it was nice in a way to make a bit of a battle for the top (just like in yesteryear) though and maybe hint that nothing is infallible. The charts haven’t been the same in a long while….bring back the days to Top of The Pops and Foxy announcing the Top 40…..also bring back the days of festive chart toppers that are festive….get some new xmas songs out there. and ultimately make music matter not the hype.
I suppose at least they’re doing something no one else has… but there is a reason for that.
Not shocking.
Not original.
Not scary.
Not funny.
Not subversive.
About as much fun as a bee enema. Anyone who thinks this is innovative and subversive needs to be looked in a small room with Disgorge and the Berzerker.
“The author of this Phd paper has suggested several times throughout his findings, that he simply conducted the research after listening to music and deciding who would actively listen to it and what demographic they would belong to.”
That doesn’t seem very academic to me. No research, no studies just unadulterated biased based categorizing. And this is coming from someone who enjoys radiohead.
I love so cold mainly bcuh it has the commercial sound but it keeps da element of the underground with it and it also catchy which is the obvious. Wolves is definately a good song aswell but i prefer so cold.
You know I have argued about this for years. I have friends who prefer records “sound quality” compared to CD’s. They run their records on degraded players with old needles, buy used records that are so worn out it’s not funny but swear it sounds better. I think of myself as being a low end audiophile, I love great sound quality but I am not willing to spend $5,000 on a tube amp. I think there are a few benefits with records compared to CD’s. Some instruments seem to have more separation when listening to them compared to the CD and the drums/symbols at times seem to sound fuller more realistic. Records weakness in my opinion are thin sounding, bass lack any kind of punch without EQ’ing it a lot.
I have found that CD’s and Records sound depends on a how it was mixed before mastering it. I have heard records better than Cd’s and CD’s that sound far better that the records. There was a loudness war with records before the new one with CD’s. Pushing the sound of CD’s is a bad thing and does completely ruin any music experience. Besides the clipping you get a drowned out muddy sound when multiple instruments playing making the music levels go up and down as you listen. I really notice this with headphones and MP3’s.
MP3’s have come a long way. If you use the right programs such EAC which is free you can make MP3’s that compare to the original.
DVD/SACD audio needs to become the formats but as you might realize the average person does not notice or care about the quality of music, they listen to it on radios and poor quality MP3 and there happy with that and really I don’t blame them, there are more important things to worry about.
I want better sound quality for I wouldn’t trade CD’s for records ever. EVER!

Great article Lauren. It’s such a shame that the Gallagher Brothers formerly of Oasis won’t be at The BRIT 2010 Awards. These guys have produced some of the finest British rock music ever. Oasis exemplified what the Brits are all about. In my opinion that’s homegrown talent. I was fortunate enough to attend the Brit Awards in 2008 when oasis closed the show after receiving their own award. They were totally brilliant, everyone was on their feet and that included the suits in VIP, I know, because once again those amazing chaps at got me those outstanding VIP passes. Although some of the “Dad dancing” in the VIP area was really scary!
The Brits is the UK’s biggest live music show and Television event with millions of people tuning in each year to see the best of British and International talent perform live and receive awards. Sometimes controversial but always highly entertaining, The Brit Awards is an outstanding event on the annual social calendar and not to be missed.
The British music business generates billions a year for the Uk economy and this event features many of the biggest stars on stage as well as the business leaders behind the scenes Past attendees include : MICHAEL JACKSON, PRINCE, PAUL McCartney, OASIS, FLEEWOOD MACK, KYLIE, MUSE, AIMEE WINHOUSE, COLDPLAY, GIRLS ALOUD, KINGS OF LEON, TAKE THAT, ROBBIE WILLIAMS, GEORGE MICHAEL, MADONNA. Not just a brilliant evening’s entertainment but an opportunity to meet and create relationships with the decision makers, executives, distributors, publishers producers and artists of one the UK’s biggest domestic and overseas trading businesses. The Music and entertainment business is worth billions per year and is of course culturally priceless. The Brit awards annual event generates funding to support the Brits school for performing arts and Nordoff Robbins music therapy. Several of the former student of the Brits school have gone on to become household names and win Brit awards themselves such as Amy Winehouse, Leona Lewis, Katie Melua, Adele, Kate Nash, band members of the Kooks and The Feeling to name a few. Make sure if you only attend one glamorous Red carpet event this year at I suggest you make it The Brit Awards as the event and The Brits School has given the world so much priceless musical pleasure and you’ll be helping to make the stars of tomorrow.
Did you really make an entire article based on that non-scientific study First the study was based on SAT scores, NOT IQ scores. Also, it doesn’t take into account other elements into consideration, such as living conditions of each of the participants or anything else.
I couldn’t care less how original they are.
It wont change the fact that they are talentless and need to give up making music so that everyone outside of the niche group that likes them don’t have to listen to them.
I have tried to make my nomination for Panic Awards 2010 but the address panicawardsnominations@googlemail.com keeps bouncing back as address does not exist. Can you please advise correct address.
oli’s are good
but mitch’s are just simply amazing
you need to upload a newer pic of mitch and his tattoos
his full torso is amazing
and his sleeves and legs are aswell
some off the best tattoo’s iv ever seen
seen them up close and there are amazingly detailed aswell
brokencyde is the best damn band ever to come out this is the coolest video made and the lead singer se7en is awsome and people who dont know anything about them and theyre history should SHUT THEYRE mouth and stop disin them
Avoid this company at all costs, they lie on their website, and when you’re hours late for a festival (among the mountainous list of other problems) it’s too late to do anything.
They keep changing their T&C to try and dodge peoples complaints, no compensation or refund offered whatsoever, despite them quite blatantly breaking the law and not provided the service that is advertised.
Hi there, my name is Mariano I know Rodrigo’s work from when I lived in Portugal…he used to sing pop-rock in Portuguese which was cool, but like his sound better now. As far as I know he is NOT from a village in the Amazon, he lived in a village in the amazon as a child, he is as Portuguese as they come and was raised in America…..you didn’t pay much attention in my opinion!! Keep your eyes open this is a top notch artist! Can’t wait to hear more tracks.
Fair article. Beautiful Heartache is a dark composition of songs. An explanation, perhaps, for all that has happened in so many lives associated with Oksana’s sad tragic drama. Mr. Gibson seems to have lost scop of what values create real love and peace. A typical and sad story…for so many. Perhaps there is also a sense that without the billion dollar dadday, this talent of Oksana’s would not have gone any further than the thousands of others who have not found a renue of financial backing. Sad as well is the fact that Oksana’s debut was launched in the middle of a very public scandal. I doubt anyone can stomach much of either, even if they attempt to look at the new music with interest and remain objective. It just doesn’t work in the entertainment world.
I am looking forward to see secret cinema band live again i found out about them through a friend of mine, they were amazing when i saw them in camden and the EP is great too, but here the reviewer has got the order wrong of the songs it begins with official, imag, glue when its in the right order it works perfectly! I also like that the lyrics are left up to interpitation of the listener so everyone gets a unique experience
Read your article – what most people seem not to appreciate is that musical talent doesn’t respect social bounderies, but is only easily afforded by the very wealthy as an occupation or as an entertainment. Many musicians come to the fore having fought the stresses and strains of extreme poverty and insecurity – which is enough to drive even the most sane people mad over time. Add that to the pressure to perform perfectly night after night, and you should begin to see that this can be a recipe for disaster. It is entirely possible to be a healthy, stable person and be a great professional musician – but usually when you have the financial backing of family money, or a very reasonable sponsor.
If you are interested, I have a website that I’m working through that explores the experiences musicians with bipolar disorder – and the treatments that are offered to them to cope with the illness. It is an anonymous site, but one that should offer an anonymous forum within which musicians and performers in general can go to discuss their experiences without fear of stigma.
Hi There, you should check them out live, their new material is so much better, you should come to their show in edinburgh supporting James Mcartney, pauls son this sunday…
I am a “young person” who is supposed to find mp3s the best; they are not. Since i can remember I have had a CD/Tape system from 1996, tape sound better than CD which is beter than MP3, Recently I attained a Crosby vynl, tape, cd combo machine and was floored. I had never heard a vynl before until i slid on Californication.. I turned on my sound system and it felt different than the others, you felt the music. while i will use my Zune for on the road, it will never sound the same. I now hear the electronic static in the background, espscially when I convert a tape to any digital format. Thuis didgital beeping static, while light, is now more audiable than ever.
Simply put? a 17 year old’s verdict: LP > Cassete > CD > MP3.
As a musician, label and artist manager over the years, I have seen the operations of many promoters and have the bounced cheques to prove it.
The best thing a new band can do after the initial round of opening supports in local venues, is to fill a room with 100 punters themselves and put on their own self promoted show, then with the few hundred quid you make, do it in the next town and the next. Bypass the money-grubbing chancers completely. They are not real promoters if they take no risk. Same deal with any industry agent, manager or label. They will find you when you pose a big enough threat on your own. Be independent and get business-like on the door. As artists, don’t rip off your investors either. Risk deserves some professional loyalty from you.
Music is something that is beyond human characteristic likings and dislikings. It is liked by every one though its genre can be different. Some may like the classical music style or to some hip hop and rock style would be worth making a choice. Besides these there are several genres & different artist are available.
everyone has pretty much said all i wanna say. im constantly on google trying to find tour dates to your next concerts.
i absaloutly lovee youuu..

“MP3 offers a higher quality of music again” – I cannot believe this statement. 100% wrong. After that statement, I did not read the rest of the article.
I see what the person is saying in the review, but I think that when artists release their stuff they can’t be too different otherwise it doesn’t get played in the radio 1s of today. I think it is a cool track, have heard it on the radio a couple of times. I’m pretty sure Rodrigo is on his way to be where he wants to be as a singer.
This recored is the shit . Besides the dredful instrumental hiadus every song is epic brutal and beautiful . Pure bloody violince and ear candy . Me and my mates just love it . I enjoy the trance beats aswell unlike most think it adds something diffrent . Any fan of melodic metalcore should check this record out . Evrything is just well done on this record . The screams are intence , the singing is above average , breakdowns are heavy and don’t sound repeated and the trance beats do just enough . Go check this record out u will not be disapointed .
Don’t do it, Kayt. Hang onto your rights. Don’t pay to play in this scam competition. You are both being misled about your chances of meaningful career success, even if you win. You will find the prize is another opportunity to sign a contract with the person you mention, who is too busy planning next year’s competition trawl to offer you any representation worth having.
I’m going to have to say Mitch because he got slot of his right arm filled in. Plus the diffrent things that where put into his tattoo is amazing. Mich has alot going on in his piece. But oli has alot too. I love that he followed the classic art style to the point.
Please assist in getting this song out there. I am extremely proud of it and was inspired by Susan’s breathtaking BGT-performance.

Included are the lyrics of ‘Susan’s Dream’.
Susan’s Dream
1.
In spring of ’61 God made a deal,
That Susan’s star will remain concealed,
When sun and moon eclipsed on April 1st,
He told Aries “fame is a curse”
2.
Let her live her life until forty-seven,
Let her care for her folks ‘till they go to heaven,
She’s an evening star, she will show her hand,
In the fall of her life she’ll become a brand,
Chorus
‘cause she
Dreamed a dream of times to come,
She’s our Cinderella-girl
Never judge a book by its cover,
Never kissed a boy, now the world’s her lover
She’s the queen of kind, she’s so divine
She’s our Cinderella-girl
3.
In the spring of ’09 God made a deal,
That Susan’s star may be revealed,
When sun and moon eclipsed on April 11,
Susan dreamed a dream at forty-seven,
4.
The girl from the village is the “real deal”,
Her secret talent is now revealed,
She’s the queen of kind, she won us completely
Who cares for make-up, she’s got inner beauty,
Chorus
‘cause she
Dreamed a dream of times to come,
She’s our Cinderella-girl
Never judge a book by its cover,
Never kissed a boy, now the world’s her lover
She’s the queen of kind, she’s so divine
She’s our Cinderella-girl
5.
In Spring of ’09 God made a plea,
to stop our prejudice, to make us free,
when sun and moon eclipsed on April 11,
The world created Susan’s heaven
It was great to see mix of different music genres at Homecoming Festival. If you haven’t been at this festival yet try maybe this year. It will be worth for sure.
Damn, but you write fine reviews. Comprehensive, articulate, and the distinct projection that you care about the music. I like this band. I’m looking forward to hearing them mature.
Thanks so much for the care you take on this site.
that picture of oli is also old !! n that point about him being his own doodle pad is correct but in a good way it show his individuality his are WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY betta now he has the rest of his chest done betta pics are need for both tbh :/
OLIVER SYKES FTW
Mitches are still cool tho just not as good as oli’s
I agree with lynsey, 60 persons are excellent live. I came across them at the James Mcartney gig in Edinburgh and was blown away. Not only by the energy they have on stage but also by the fact that they were far more entertaining than Macca Junior. Fantastic gig, original sound and hope to catch them live again soon
I am going to Newcastle to visit freind’s at uni and have timed it so I arrive when this event is on. I’ve been before and the atmosphere was amazing! Admittedley I didn’t know many of the name’s then and I don’t recognise any on this post either but that’s the whole point of it I guess, to discover some great music!
I don’t necessarily think promoters are lazy. I think it’s more the case that it’s incredibly difficult to promote bands successfully – and many new promoters are unaware of this.
This sound’s like a classic day out! I remember seeing East 17 about 15 years ago, would be such a nostalgia trip to do it all again, I only just heard about this event but I live in Maidstone just up the road from Faversham and after seeing the line up definitley thinking of heading down
Vinyl records are second best in terms of the sound accuracy and dynamic range. The album art is a big plus, too. You can find old singles for around $0.25 and albums for $1.00-$3.00 at Half-Price Books. I do hate having to change the needles when the treble starts to dissappear though. As weird as it sounds, I do enjoy cleaning my LPs once in a while.
Reel to Reel Tape recorders are the best tape format. I worked with these at my High School Radio Station and the user friendly editing was just awesome. You’d tape an entire lecture in a classroom and edit it with scissors and scotch tape and play it back on “Open Classroom” early on sunday morning. The big Pain in the @$$ was you needed to rewind the whole reel onto a Spare reel before playing and the end of the magnetic tape always became crunched.
Eight track tapes were pretty much the worst format, even though I have one in an old 8-Track recorder in an old Soundesign System that I still use. The 8-Track, even with my awesome 1956 Acoustic Research Speakers, Sounds no better or worse than AM Radio. Still, they make a great novelty.
Cassette Tapes are an okay format, I like how its so easy to record, re-record and play a tape. My Mom Gave me her old mixtapes a lonng time ago when she had them transfered to CD, theyre from the 70′s and 80′s, yet they sound as if they were recorded yesterday. They durability of a cassettes hard plastic case cant be matched either, no skipping, scratching or smudging like with CDs or wear-out, gouging or warping of a Vinyl Record. There still is the occasional tape salad problem, but my tape player rarely does that.
CDs are the best format when it comes to conveniance, ease-of-use, computer-compatability, and Sound Accuracy. Mix CD-R’s in my opinion are better than mixtapes. You can personalize the track listing and album art work easier than a cassette or vinyl. Not to mention that CD players and CD-ROM drives/CD Burners are nearly universal, where you can play you CD and you can even rip your CD’s to MP3 and put them on your iPod. You can even cram 8-10 albums on an MP3 CD-R and play it on most modern players. Sadly, discs can get scratched and smuged and then it may never play again.
MiniDiscs are the second best digital format when it comes to having the digital quality of a CD with the component recordability of the format and durability of a cassette tape. MiniDiscs can fit 60, 74 or 80 minutes of uncompressed PCM data or 2 to 4 hours using ATRAC encoding. I don’t record anymore on MD, but I still use it to play all my old mixes. Sadly, there was never a steady pre-recorded MD business in the US or Europe, I only own four myself.
iPod are the okay. Its nice to have my entire music collection on one devise. Though MP4s and MP3s do have a lower sound quality than CDs, MDs or Vinyl.
i went to see you at dance energy in glasgow. my boyfriend dumped me after 2 years because i always was looking you up on google and twitter! anyways, just wanted to say im in love with you<3xx
He sings deep, he sings with soul, he sings from the heart. Great voice, great songs – “Magic”! At least you got the second part of the equation right!
What kind of a voice do you want to sing “Old Black Dodge” – Bocelli, Barry Manilow, or perhaps Justin Bieber!!?
Marc – the coach arrived late because a number of people on the coach were very drunk – resulting in the coach stopping for toilet breaks every 20 minutes. They broke parts of the coach, and one passenger was racist to the driver. You were on the coach so you know this is the case. The behaviour of the passengers was so bad that the coach company refused to pick them up, so we paid for another coach to bring our customers home instead – paying twice for one journey.
Fran, what festival did you travel to with us? We are 100% honest on our website and have NEVER changed our terms and conditions – to claim we have is libellous and most importantly – completely untrue. We have never broken the law, and we have also never failed to the deliver the service as advertised.
This Chico song is dreadful and desperate!
There is only one great England song that I`ve heard and that is `Green Fields of England` by George and the Dragons.
I don’t think that music really determines IQ, then how about those person who is not a music lover, maybe it is only observe by the traits/ character of musician, but it doesn’t mean that it is a valid reason.
Richard is a huge talent – I had the pleasure of working with him a few years ago in Dubai, where he was accompanying me and I was blown away by his talent. So glad he is finally getting the recognition he deserves!
@Chris:
I agree with you when you say that crunk fans won’t like the screamo and screamo fans won’t like the crunk – it’s true. But surely that’s how music keeps going – by mixing different types of sounds and trying new things? If everybody did the same thing over and over again, it would get very boring, very quickly. On what do you base the idea that they have no talent? They do what they do very well, and what they do is crunkcore.
@Metalmaggot:
I’ve seen them live twice, and they were possibly the best damn concerts I’ve ever been to (and that’s saying something). They put a huge amount of effort and energy into their performances, and it really showed.
@BMTH:
BrokeNCYDE and BMTH are two completely different bands. I love them both, but they’re two completely different styles of music.
@Panzervarg:
You contradict yourself: “they’re doing something no one else has”… “Not original.” Right. Okay.
@Greggg:
w4Y +0 Tr01l
@Macattakc:
No-one’s making anyone listen to them. There are loads of niche groups for music genres. If you eliminated them all, we’d be left to the spewings of Sony, EMI, Warner and Universal. Fun world that’d be.
–
As a side note, I’ll agree (and a lot of other BrokeNCYDE fans will too) that this video is quite shit. They made it in a couple of hours with practically no money whatsoever, and everyone in that video is a volunteer. They’ve made far better songs than Freaxxx (check out Get Crunk or Schitzo).
At the end of the day, it’s music. Everyone has their own tastes. Enjoy yours, and leave other people to enjoy theirs.
Music has always played a really important part in my life. I have loved music since a very early age and I love that you can feel a connection to a particular song or piece of music. I honestly don’t know where I would be without my favourite songs and artists, they have gotten me through the hard times and the lyrics to their songs are very inspirational to aspiring singers and musicians. Music has helped shape me into the person I am today, I go to singing lessons and dancing lessons and it’s all I ever want to do. The importance of music in my life cannot even be described, there are no words. It amazes me that a song can bring tears to your eyes with the lyrics, or make you smile when you feel like crying.
So thank you music, for being their when no one else was. :]
Dave / Vicky – completely missed my point. This is a music review site and my comment was related to the music. Of course I do not disrespect the troops (in spite of my political views.)
Please don’t be so patronising. And Dave, do you really think that “if you have served in the forces, you should hang your head in shame?!”
Um, yes mp3 and cds are louder….because of compression. For cds and mp3s engineers compress the recordings and increase the overall volume ending with a recording that is uniformly loud and lacking it’s original dynamic range.
Vinyl on the other hand has a limit to how much it can be compressed.
The Author of this article makes this whole article lose all of its credibilty when he/she states that MP3s offer a higher quality of music than CDs.
Which format is better is a matter of opinion, but the quality of the mediums can be scientifically proven. I want to lay rest to the whole Digital vs. Analog debate. Even though I am a Huge CD Fan, technically speaking, analog media is better than digital. That lies in the fact that Analog mediums such as Vinyl and Tape, capture more of the actual, original sound wave than CDs or MP3s/MP4s.
Analog formats such as Vinyl Records or Cassette tapes capture the original form of the sound waves, mirrored in the vinyls grooves or the polarity of Iron shaving on a plastic tape. CDs on the other hand take samples of the soundwave every so often, missing some of the sound wave, though still retaining most of it. What MP3s do is they take the sampled sound of a CD, take 9/10ths of the information and throw it away.
Making a Discriminating Audiophile or classical music lover listen to MP3s is like making an art critic try to crtique a painting behind a pane of frosted glass.
I happen to like Vinyl and CD for listening at home and I listen to MP3 Podcasts and Cassette Tapes in the car. I happen to like Vinyl because of its nostalgic feel, look, smell, sound, and the minor imperfections in the audio adds a little atmosphere to the music. Listening to Vinyl is a more hands on experiance since you actually have to clean your records, change the needles, check the speed etc. and I happen to like that. Theres nothing quite like unrapping the cellophane off a brand new 220-gram, virgin-vinyl, original and limited pressing, $55.00 + S&H Tchaikovsky’s 1812 LP and sliding it out of its sleeve and playing it back on a turntable from 1977 (Did that Last Week). Vinyl is actually a more sentimental medium, If that was a CD I would feel the same. Its also more fun to hunt down Vinyl at garage sales, thrift stores, flea markets, estate sales etc.
Cassette Tapes are also pretty good, especially for car use. There the most durable of all the formats, they dont completely drain non-removable batteries which cost $11 to replace, like MP3. They dont scratch and smudge like CD and they don’t warp, gouge or get dusty like and LP/45. I can tell you, I have had to stop bring original CDs into the car, as they all get scratched up, even the Burned CD-Rs that’ve been in there for more then a year won’t play, there scratched to H*LL! But I’ve had some tapes in that car practically since I owned It! (circa 2003) and I’ve only lost one to the “tape salad” curse. I also like to record off the radio and CD and make Road Music Mixes.
CDs are my favorite format as they sound great, even if Vinyl or a well-recorded tape can sound better. I like to burn MP3 CD mixes onto CD-Rs and buy CDs at Walmart/Target Quite often. I ususally listen to either Vinyl or CD on my stereo. I have a collection of around 800-1000 CDs, give or take about 50-100, not Including mixes I’ve made myself. The only problem with CDs is they scratch so easily and pretty much the only CD player whose lense hasn’t burned out is my Denon D-606 from the ’80s.
actually, Ive taught german in namibia and tell you the reason that third world prefer cassette tape is that many of people are to poor to afford CD player and using a Phonograf would be pretty difficult.
Not to metion that cassette work better in dusty Namib Desert. Most of music I bought there was on casseett, there were very few CD and no record at all! wich is odd becuz of in europe and North America the music stores are all CDs and itunes purrchase/gift card and those even are failing!!!
Cassette pretty much dead in develope world, though some still use like Dr. Cassette on YouTube. In couple of years, you wont see tape outside of third world villages! Big cities such as Windhoek/Lübek in namibia will gone digital.
Young pop stars today have been much younger but competitive in talent. I do believe that the choice they made in their lives have purpose. It doesn’t mean that if you are too young, you don’t have the right to work. Make the kids taught it as a play. Don’t pressure them to work. Let them be. And make sure you are not giving mislead actions that would lead them to rebellions or delinquencies. The best thing as parent is talk to them and let them choose whatever they like. If they like to be in Hollywood, make sure you are supporting every step of the way because sometimes that path they walk has thorns and hitch hiker who would take advantage of their weakness.
What really annoys me is how people can say that a downfall of the CD over the vinyl record is that it can get scratched or smudged, and can never be played again. This is not entirely accurate.
If your CDs are getting scratched and smudged to hell, then you’re obviously not treating them properly. What do you think that CD case is for?? If you replace the CD back in its case when not in use (instead leaving them on the floor of your house or car) then they’re hardly ever going to get scratched! What do you expect if people just leave they’re CDs lying around? They’re not protected!
And as for vinyl records, you wouldn’t leave them just lying around on the floor would you? They’re far more likely to suffer from scrathes and smudges than a CD is going to! And what do you do with records after using them? Put them back in their sleeve, the same should be done with CDs! Use the case!
And plus, if your CD does happen to become scratched or smudged, it is possible to repair it using a CD Scratch Repair Kit or Station! Can#t do that with vinyl or tape!
But don’t get me wrong, I love vinyl too! Just annoys me how people obviously don’t look after their CDs. I’m confident in saying that none of the CDs I own have suffered any significant damage such as what people have been saying here!
Les Miserables is not an opera, it’s a musical. It’s not sung by opera singers. It’s written for amplified voices whereas the lack of amplification is the main feature today that distinguishes opera from musicals.
Also, saying that operas are typically written in French or Italian ignores the large heritage of German operas as well as Russian operas.
Also, operetta is not opera. It’s a separate genre between opera and musicals. Sung like opera in classical style, but also featuring A LOT of spoken dialog, type-casting by looks (it’s normal to have a 50-year old ingenue in opera, but not in operetta), dancing. Operettas may sometimes be performed by opera theaters, but in most European countries where operetta is prevalent there is a special operetta theater which performs operettas and musicals.

Many Thanks

Funny enough, when I hear the “classical” ring on people’s cells, it’s irritating. I actually prefer the generic polyphonic ringtone since it’s softer on the ears. I’ve heard some cells with animal calls. Those always make me either giggle or wrinkle my nose.

There are too many hasty generalizations in this.

April 14th, 2009 at 2:09 pm
Heard most of the albim, it sounds amazing melodies and hooks all over the place. Moscow underground the 1st track is amazingly atmospheric and unique sounding.

Thanks for your nice comment
Hopefully many more interesting articles to come, so stay tuned!
April 15th, 2009 at 9:50 am
April 16th, 2009 at 8:40 pm
If you can get hold of The Smashing Pumpkins ‘Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness’ on LP, that’s another modern classic that improves with the vinyl experience.
It comes on 3 lp’s, has a different booklet to the cd pack and a different track listing that suits the format of 3-5 songs per side.
April 17th, 2009 at 9:14 am
good luck kate! waiting for the album, i am sure it will be amazing! you are a very sensual and beautiful artist.

This plug is intended for use by you to discover what you like.

“MP3 offers a higher quality of music again” ? ? ? ?
Wrong. Objectively; subjectively; however it is viewed – an MP3 discards content and cannot be “higher quality” than its source. Just can’t! End of story. Not possible.
Good article spoiled by drastic innaccuracy.

I have a question….
May 23rd, 2009 at 12:58 pm
I do agree though – in most cases, even if you didn’t know the original source but the file was played through a decent enough system, it’d be incredibly hard to tell the difference.

alot to like,,but a little to processed in the bass /drum section in most tracks,
dry edge growling rock bass with ambient no- edge drum mix,
a little to kareoke for mine..
you need tight melodic bass /drums to compliment the atmospheric vocal/guitar = there best early work…throw away the chord chart and go for it!!

Sure to be a fab night…the boys will be doing what they do best and then a meet and greet afterwards. Sure to be a fantastic night so pop down for a drink or two and enjoy a fantastic night with us and the “faces of disco”.
June 15th, 2009 at 10:35 am
This article loses all credibility when the author claims sound quality among mp3′s strengths. It offends me not only that someone would perpetuate such misinformation but also that this comment–more valuable than the article itself–is regulated to the bottom of the page when it clearly belongs at the top.
June 15th, 2009 at 12:45 pm

June 16th, 2009 at 6:27 pm

June 27th, 2009 at 8:14 am
June 28th, 2009 at 7:05 am

Earplugs are great for gigs!

I think you should listen to this album a bit more and use less ink in your pen & more ear to the music & yes he is brilliant live!!Unfortunately this smacks of a predictably english review.

August 19th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
Sorry to hear you’ve had troubles and I hope the organisers will take in to account your considerations. Sadly nothing is perfect, but I would’ve thought they’d run a few more buses. Hope you still had fun.

Hopefully they will, will bring you guys information as and when we can. Glad you enjoyed it.
August 24th, 2009 at 7:00 pm
Wife and I had a smashing weekend, good location and music, so big thanks to all involved. Only one moan, we could do with a few more shower units next time though, as most mornings there was over an hour’s waiting time. That aside, we are alrady looking forward to the next one. Now to get some sleep
August 24th, 2009 at 8:03 pm
What a great weekend!
Thanks for a great weekend though, will definately be back next year and with more of us too……
August 25th, 2009 at 10:52 am
And don’t forget to think about copyright issues. Do you join a collecting society or do you manage your own rights?
August 25th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
WOW!!! a FAB weekend, great music, great people and great weather what more could we ask for, oh yeah a few more coffee vans and showers in the campsite, please!!

August 25th, 2009 at 9:41 pm
My friends & I had a great weekend & are really looking forward to doing it again. Everyone had their favourites, but highlights were Real Thing, Rick Astley, ABC, Billy Ocean & Sister Sledge. Organisation was great, sun shone & much beer was consumed. I heard on the grapevine that if this year was a success then next year the ticket availability would be doubled. If this is true I think the atmosphere would be spoiled and also there would have to be more toilets, showers, food availability.
August 26th, 2009 at 9:55 am
Try checking out for details of any future events.

Definitely some good tips there!
August 26th, 2009 at 10:28 am
Had a fab weekend – perfect in every way ….apart from lack of toilets and showers. Having said that, it didnt spoil anything. The sight of thousands of fortysomethings dressed up, having a blast was great. Bring on 2010 !!
August 26th, 2009 at 12:40 pm
Some great points there, the fact about loving doing it is of course very true, nice one with the link too. I guess I was making the points to try and make the best of dealing with the small amounts of time and resources unsigned bands have to use. Anything that allows for more flexibility and leeway should be looked into
August 28th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
Had such a good weekend !!!!! Please please do it again next year! nic kershaw and howard jones were great !!!!
August 28th, 2009 at 6:12 pm
Absolutely brilliant…..AWESOME Please say they are doing one next year……..
August 29th, 2009 at 7:16 pm
what a brilliant weekend. Oh and keep it for the same weekend as the V festival – gives us “oldies” something to do! he he. BRING ON 2010! xx
August 31st, 2009 at 3:01 am
Just been looking on the facebook site and they have some really good ideas if it was done again next year. So if anyone important is reading this – here goes:-
Bigger Comedy Store Tent / or maybe 2 Tents
Proper Disco not Silent Disco
More Funfair rides
More Showers
Less Artists but Artists given a longer slot
Food/Drink to be cheaper as everyone thought it to expensive
Personally i think the organisers would be MAD not to do another rewind festival next year, considering this year is the “credit crunch” year and already people want tickets for next year.

Brett Huckfield

Best wishes,
Brett Huckfield

Wife didn’t want to go, as she had a gut feeling about a lack of showers and loos.
Went with a mate for the whole weekend, what a fantastic, trouble free, totally enjoyable experience.(need more coffee shops)
The promoters need to pat theirselves on the back.
This was one hell of a success and I want to go back now.
September 5th, 2009 at 2:15 pm

Just a heads up for everyone, tickets are already on sale for next year
Which is fantastic!

All the best, Clive.

October 9th, 2009 at 11:34 pm

That is a shame, a lot of entertainers are dying so young, Fame is not worth the price. I offer my condolences to his loved ones.

RIP Steven Gately, he was way too young
October 13th, 2009 at 10:03 am

The essex music scene has been getting better and better lately, loads of talent in this wonderful county
October 14th, 2009 at 5:18 pm
Is this true? What’s the reason why she was hit by a book?
October 15th, 2009 at 10:48 am
devestating that such a talented and wonderful person should be taken so young all my thought are with his friends family and loved ones at this most difficult time
god bless

I’ll be buying it. Jamie is just fantastic and certainly does not deserve to be called ‘just’ a jazz musician – he’s got a real talent sadly lacking with so many of the prefabricated bands we see today.
October 18th, 2009 at 11:30 am
Great review on Jamie. I’ll be buying the new album (well I have already pre ordered mine lol)
From what I have heard of it so far, the album sounds brilliant!!

October 25th, 2009 at 6:48 pm
what a great weekend
four of us went from youngest 12 y/o to me a mere 39 y/o, we all enjoyed the whole set up,
if i were to send any message to the organiser’s it would be that the sound set up did seem to cause a lot of problems for the acts
October 25th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
Shakey is the best and most well respected promoter in Essex and other promoters can only hope to be as successful and liked as he is. Not only does he attract local bands but he can command bands from across the country and from as far as the States. Anyone within drivable distance to Chelmsford should come and check out his nights and the bands playing for him.
Fingers crossed for the new venue!
Great interview!
October 25th, 2009 at 11:47 pm
Shakey’s a legend around the Chelmsford area. It’s great to know there’s still somebody around keeping the local music scene alive and supporting the many bands and artists struggling to find gigs anywhere now there’s becoming less venues about.
Our band; Osmium Guillotine (www.myspace.com/osmiumguillotine), has only been going a few months, but Shakey has supported us from day one by giving us slots at his nights, which we are very grateful for! Cheers.

October 28th, 2009 at 10:35 pm
Long live Leona Lewis!!!She is such an amazing and influential person. Now she’s even influencing the rock scene – see this cover of Bleeding Love by rock band Mirrorkicks for example (I love it)…
October 30th, 2009 at 9:39 am
Brokencyde doesnt have talent if you ask me, sounds like their voices are altered dramatically, bet if you see them live they will either lip sing or suck ass!

i disagree with you
medicine is a lovely song, its surreal and beautiful,
also you shoudl really do soem more research on the artist,
this is from the 2nd album, cagedbaby is a singer songwriter turned dj by the way, have you seen the amount of music available for the artist?

i thought that it was cruel what happened on the show last night, jamelia could of said nothing and just not taken part in that particular part of the quiz. it was like watching bullys attack someone! everyone took the side of jamelia, possibably because they know what its like to have story sold on them. the producers of the show should of known that maxwell D and Jamelia was not going to be a good combination.

The photo of Mitch isn’t his most tattoo’d ‘nor his best photo, but he is my favourite out of the two, though! However, I like Oli”s tattoo’s more I think, just for the simple reason that they aren’t as dark as Mitch’s.
Also, Mitch IS the better vocalist
Agree? Disagree?
November 10th, 2009 at 10:31 pm

November 13th, 2009 at 3:11 pm
This album, its two predecessors and the many others like them hold a mirror up to british society today; standards plummeting to the lowest common denominator with lashings of saccharine banal mediocrity. the crossover genre is an all round menace and has fooled the public in thinking that is the extent of ‘classical music’ today.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:07 pm

November 19th, 2009 at 6:34 pm

November 24th, 2009 at 1:31 pm
i really love ur album and i think that the money made from the album should be given to the soldiers who fight for our country
November 24th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
Jamelia needs to concentrate on her music game.. were forgetting what she actually does. (apart from being extremley negative) always got something to say, she should say it on her music. Max D wrong at the time. selling stories is a part of showbiz u have to deal with it. Retaliating proves that it is tru!! Anyways Jamelia’s career is FINISHED cause she’s got tough competition ie, Alexandra Burke, Leona Lewis thats what she needs to concentrate on!! she’s the worst vocalist i know… good luck….
November 24th, 2009 at 9:41 pm
I was at the christmas switch on in chelmsford on sunday, fantastic event this year WELL DONE!! Have to say, surprised there hasnt been more written about the winner of the tallent competition, BIANCA HALL
This young girl was absouletly fantastic, beautiful voice and surely a big future ahead of her. she was easily on a par with the more experienced acts preceeding her “well done young lady”!!
November 24th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
Yes she was excellent…I didn’t have enough details to write about the youngsters but they were all great!
November 25th, 2009 at 10:40 am
This is an interesting piece – I just wonder though, what the situation is for live music (not festivals).
Are show sales declining? Are venues struggling? Are touring bands finding it tough to get shows?
This is a large part of the music industry . it’d be great to get your take on it
November 25th, 2009 at 11:00 am

What is good sound is subjective. Most youth prefer the sizzling sound of MP3s, that’s music for them… some audiophiles or kids who lived during the retro years prefers vinyl, they love the warm sound (with some crackling), some prefers the zero-noise CD… while most of us in the third world prefers cassette tape, we love the warm sound with hisses.

i see that you’re not a fan of mcfly. sure, i was not, when i didn’t know about mcfly at all. but from the first time i heard them, from the first seconds i watched their videos, i fell in love with them that seconds. not because of how good-looking they are. maybe that is one reason, but mostly because of their talents. have you realized they are SO MUCH better live than when they record their album?
you know, some people are better when they record their album than singing live, but mcfly is the vice versa. that’s good, doesn’t it? it proves to people that they are really talented, and really good.
one thing, i’m from brunei. and i just can’t fly from brunei to london just to see them, because somehow, i am not a rich girl. if i am, and if i have lots of money, the ONLY reason why i would want to go to london would be because of mcfly.
they’ve been so much matured with their singing. i want to have the DVD, like so bad. but i can’t. because i’ve been searching for it in brunei, but they don’t sell it. and i’m like so disappointed. i’d never wanted a DVD this bad, but ever since i saw them live on youtube, and when i realized i can’t go to london, i want this DVD.
why? a very good question, indeed. because i know, their live version are so much better.
and i’m not insulting, but mcfly is seriously the best band i’ve ever come across. they don’t do lip syncing, as what most of people will do. i agree with what gemma and minna wrote. you wrote a fair review, but maybe because you’re into acoustic version, you’re not that into mcfly.
and i write this comment, just because i want the world to know, mcfly really is a great band.
their songs are catchy, their lyrics are funny, and sometimes sad, but still good, they are being themselves in front of the crowd, they are crazy but i love it. they are just…them.
gee, i guess i’m writing too much. i’m sorry. i can’t help but to be obsessed with them. i used to be obsessed with them, but now i’m falling in love with them.
and i’m so sorry if i’m talking nonsense here. i’m so so so sorry.
“don’t judge a book by its cover”
December 9th, 2009 at 3:02 pm

December 16th, 2009 at 11:19 pm

December 18th, 2009 at 11:40 am
Where do you start with Mr Garrett, If you have served in the forces you should hang your head in shame as a human being, what ever your politics on the war in Aganistan or other places come to that.
If not, then I suggest to “sign up”. As for their songs, they beat X factor Hands down – and more!!.
I suggest you redeem yourself and go to the Help4Heroes website and look at what happening in the real world. Or like me go to Wootton Bassett and see for yourself that you are “alone”.

They reflect punters’ uninformed guesses and nothing else.

come on RATM!
December 20th, 2009 at 7:02 pm
Ekcol,
Think you are the idiot, a Bookie adjusts the odds he offers based on numerous factors, one of them being the number of bets taken.. others are things like “inside information” and common sense!
Please make sure you know what you are saying before you start yacking rubbish!
December 20th, 2009 at 7:05 pm

You are an idiot.

I couldn’t care less how original they are.
It wont change the fact that they are talentless and need to give up making music so that everyone outside of the niche group that likes them don’t have to listen to them.

Agree with the above poster.
Avoid. You’ll be sorry if you don’t.

Hi,
Read your article – what most people seem not to appreciate is that musical talent doesn’t respect social bounderies, but is only easily afforded by the very wealthy as an occupation or as an entertainment.
Bests,
C

March 16th, 2010 at 2:26 am
March 20th, 2010 at 8:00 pm
Music is something that is beyond human characteristic likings and dislikings. It is liked by every one though its genre can be different. Some may like the classical music style or to some hip hop and rock style would be worth making a choice. Besides these there are several genres & different artist are available.

“MP3 offers a higher quality of music again” – I cannot believe this statement. 100% wrong. After that statement, I did not read the rest of the article.
March 22nd, 2010 at 7:40 pm
I see what the person is saying in the review, but I think that when artists release their stuff they can’t be too different otherwise it doesn’t get played in the radio 1s of today. I think it is a cool track, have heard it on the radio a couple of times. I’m pretty sure Rodrigo is on his way to be where he wants to be as a singer.
March 24th, 2010 at 4:23 am
This recored is the shit . Besides the dredful instrumental hiadus every song is epic brutal and beautiful . Pure bloody violince and ear candy . Me and my mates just love it . I enjoy the trance beats aswell unlike most think it adds something diffrent . Any fan of melodic metalcore should check this record out . Evrything is just well done on this record . The screams are intence , the singing is above average , breakdowns are heavy and don’t sound repeated and the trance beats do just enough . Go check this record out u will not be disapointed .
March 24th, 2010 at 11:10 am
Don’t do it, Kayt. Hang onto your rights. Don’t pay to play in this scam competition. You are both being misled about your chances of meaningful career success, even if you win. You will find the prize is another opportunity to sign a contract with the person you mention, who is too busy planning next year’s competition trawl to offer you any representation worth having.
March 24th, 2010 at 8:50 pm

I’m going to have to say Mitch because he got slot of his right arm filled in. Plus the diffrent things that where put into his tattoo is amazing. Mich has alot going on in his piece. But oli has alot too. I love that he followed the classic art style to the point.

Hi,
Please assist in getting this song out there. I am extremely proud of it and was inspired by Susan’s breathtaking BGT-performance.
It is at
Included are the lyrics of ‘Susan’s Dream’.
Susan’s Dream
1.
In spring of ’61 God made a deal,
That Susan’s star will remain concealed,
When sun and moon eclipsed on April 1st,
He told Aries “fame is a curse”
2.
Let her live her life until forty-seven,
Let her care for her folks ‘till they go to heaven,
She’s an evening star, she will show her hand,
In the fall of her life she’ll become a brand,
Chorus
‘cause she
Dreamed a dream of times to come,
She’s our Cinderella-girl
Never judge a book by its cover,
Never kissed a boy, now the world’s her lover
She’s the queen of kind, she’s so divine
She’s our Cinderella-girl
3.
In the spring of ’09 God made a deal,
That Susan’s star may be revealed,
When sun and moon eclipsed on April 11,
Susan dreamed a dream at forty-seven,
4.
The girl from the village is the “real deal”,
Her secret talent is now revealed,
She’s the queen of kind, she won us completely
Who cares for make-up, she’s got inner beauty,
Chorus
‘cause she
Dreamed a dream of times to come,
She’s our Cinderella-girl
Never judge a book by its cover,
Never kissed a boy, now the world’s her lover
She’s the queen of kind, she’s so divine
She’s our Cinderella-girl
5.
In Spring of ’09 God made a plea,
to stop our prejudice, to make us free,
when sun and moon eclipsed on April 11,
The world created Susan’s heaven
Regards
Gert Loubser

It was great to see mix of different music genres at Homecoming Festival. If you haven’t been at this festival yet try maybe this year. It will be worth for sure.

Damn, but you write fine reviews. Comprehensive, articulate, and the distinct projection that you care about the music. I like this band. I’m looking forward to hearing them mature.
Thanks so much for the care you take on this site.

May 2nd, 2010 at 9:28 pm
I don’t necessarily think promoters are lazy. I think it’s more the case that it’s incredibly difficult to promote bands successfully – and many new promoters are unaware of this.
Just my opinion.

My verdict is CD>MD>LP>iPod>Tape>R2R>8-Track

It’s good to see snoop dog up to something a bit more classy. The recent Calirfonia song w/ Katy Perry is a bit weird.

@Jim:
Wow. A literacy-related insult.
@Chris:
@Metalmaggot:
I’ve seen them live twice, and they were possibly the best damn concerts I’ve ever been to (and that’s saying something). They put a huge amount of effort and energy into their performances, and it really showed.
@BMTH:
BrokeNCYDE and BMTH are two completely different bands. I love them both, but they’re two completely different styles of music.
@Panzervarg:
You contradict yourself: “they’re doing something no one else has”… “Not original.” Right. Okay.
@Greggg:
w4Y +0 Tr01l
@Macattakc:

June 29th, 2010 at 5:22 pm
