Default Are the drums hard to learn?

I don't know if anyone in here actually plays or not? My son is interested in learning and seems to think it would be one of the easier instruments. I think it is most likely harder than it seems to be able to do it well.

I'd agree that it really is a hard thing to learn, because its a case of both learning rhythm and getting strong enough to cope with long periods of strenuous play.

I am not a drummer, but I can tell you if you don't have good natural time then that will be extremely hard to learn, but I don't know if it is any harder than any other instruments.

Quite a committment with regards to money. My nephew has just started drumming a year ago, and is already playing in his church sometimes. so it can be learnt quite quickly if you have natural talent. Personally I find it a bit tough getting 4 things going at the same time! lol

I play djembe, which is an african drum. That is probably easier to get started with, cheaper, and you'd see if he was interested in a full kit.

On the LOUD point: it is possible to buy an electronic kit now, and plug in headphones or adjust volume. Doesn't take up as much space either. Just a thought.

All the best with it.

Chris

Can your son clap his hands, or tap his foot, in time to any song on the radio?

If her can then it means he has a natural sense of rhythm, and should be able to start learning drums.
