Urban Music News

by Lauren John. Published April 8, 2009.

A few interesting snippets of news have come to light recently, all focused on the Urban Music World, so sit back, relax, and enjoy your urban music roundup.

First up we’ll soon be introducing new hip hop star Major to music.co.uk. Major first burst onto the scene in 2008 and has been attracting the attention of the music press ever since. He released a new single JUMP a few months ago, which is now available for download on I-Tunes. We’ll have an interview on site soon; in the meantime keep your eyes and ears open for the singer that Hip Hop magazine is describing as ‘Hip Hop’s New Lyrical Poet’.

Next up are details of an album involving the late great Johnny Cash’s music and Snoop Dog. Yes you heard right Snoop Dog has been busy as executive producer on ‘Johnny Cash Remixed’, an album of classic hits from the Country/Rock music star, which have been given the remix treatment from the crème de la crème of the urban music world. Along with Snoop Dog, Alabama 3, The Heavy, and Buck 65 are some of the names involved in the album.

Johnny Cash’s son John Carter Cash is also an executive producer on the project, and he comments in press material about his legendary father. “My father made his stead defying the expected and accepted way of things. He would have loved this remix record. While it stays true to the original recordings, the CD touches on undiscovered ground. My father was about staying true to tradition while creating groundbreaking music.”

The C.D will be released on June 15th via new rock music label EARmusic. It also comes in a limited edition CD/DVD package which features an exclusive behind the scenes documentary.

And finally, some festival news from the U.K. Two award winning acts that need no introduction are Harvey (So Solid Crew) and Ms Dynamite. Between them they’ve knotched up an impressive list of accolades in the Urban Music World, and now hope to delight fans at this year’s Homecoming Festival. Both acts will perform sets at the two day event in Scotland, which takes place 2-3rd of May. The festival site at Irvine Beach Park will also feature some exclusive DJ sets from Armin van Buuren, and Jazzie B, and a host of other performances over 12 arenas. All this means around 14 hours of music each day, that’s something not to be missed. For more information visit the official website www.homecomingfestival.com

It was great to see mix of different music genres at Homecoming Festival. If you haven’t been at this festival yet try maybe this year. It will be worth for sure.

It’s good to see snoop dog up to something a bit more classy. The recent Calirfonia song w/ Katy Perry is a bit weird.
