Bullet For My Valentine have been described as a Metal Core Band, that’s influenced by Heavy Metal acts such as Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Nirvana. Going by this alone, I didn’t think my softer/more commercial ears would like this track at all, but having played it through a few times I was somewhat surprised.

‘The Last Fight’ is a pretty hardcore, turbo charged slice of Heavy Metal/Rock, and with a title like ‘The Last Fight’ you’d expect it to pack quite a punch. Consistent/repetitive drums and urgent noisy guitar riffs, were crammed into the song until it was fit to burst, and there were the obligatory bursts of screamo as well, which I didn’t really enjoy. Apart from that I give this band full marks for vocals, energy, and the fluid/melodic/soaring moments that managed to creep into the track and take me by surprise! Bullet For My Valentine work in a genre of music which I wouldn’t normally explore too often, but in a way I’m glad I did this time around. Would I buy ‘The Last Fight’? probably not, but would I recommend it as a music journalist? Hell yes!
